Chairman Ferrel Crossley called the regular meeting of the Adams County Planning Commission to order at 7:33 p.m. on August 16, 2010, in the courtroom of the Adams County Courthouse. At last meeting the application by Bear Creek Lodge to add snowmobile rentals and snowmobile lessons was tabled. Bill Shore moved that the matter be taken off the table. Jerry Lee seconded the motion, which passed with all six members present voting in favor of the motion. Chairman Crossley asked Mike McLaughlin, representing Bear Creek Lodge, to explain what he wanted to do. Mr. McLaughlin explained that they would like to offer snowmobiles for rent and have lessons. This currently not a part of their conditional use permit. The main concern the commission members had was that guests riding the snowmobiles would be crossing Highway 55 in an area with limited visibility.  Mr. McLaughlin told commission members that guests would not be crossing the highway as they have public lands next to the lodge. He said no one at the lodge has a guide’s license, but they have applied for one. He also there would be no new signs put up and that the lodge had adequate insurance. At the public hearing, Jeff Batten had expressed his concern that the septic system would not handle the increase in guests, but he said that he had checked on that and it was fine. Christy Ward moved that the Adams County Planning Commission recommends to the Adam County Commissioners that snowmobile rentals and snowmobile lessons be added to the conditional use permit. Micki Eby seconded the motion, which passed with all six members present voting in favor of the motion.

 

After reviewing the minutes from the May meeting Micki Eby moved that minutes be approved with one spelling correction. Jerry Lee seconded the motion, which passed with all six members present voting in favor of the motion.

 

Jeff Batten said that he did not have much new going on except that all paperwork now must be filled out completely and the same way every time.

 

Don said that he did not have any new applications coming in. He said that the Adams County Commissioners wanted the planning commission to look over the enforcement part of the ordinances and see if they had any ideas on enforcement or any changes that might help with enforcement. Currently is it less expensive for some businesses to pay the fine then it is to correct the problem.

 

Chairman Crossley adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m. The next meeting will be held on September 20, 2010 in the courtroom of the Adams County Courthouse if anything new comes in.
